Hair loss is a normal phenomenon.
We have between 100,000 and 150,000 hairs and we normally lose between 50 and 100 a day.
If you’re losing more than 100 hairs per day, it’s probably a hair loss problem.
We must distinguish between 2 types of hair loss:
- Abundant and unusual hair loss,
- androgenic alopecia, which has a decrease in the number of hairs. Gradually, the scalp clears up. You can have diffuse alopecia or plaque alopecia (alopecia areata).
Abundant Hair Loss
It can appear when there is a significant physiological change in the body, this can have an impact on the hair root leading to hair loss. Example: after childbirth, surgery, rapid weight loss or severe stress. Regrowth is generally spontaneous in 4 to 6 months. Beyond that, the fall can be pathological, it must then be treated.
Androgenic Alopecia
The androgenetic alopecia is a process of hair loss that causes more or less significant thinning of the top of the scalp. It’s estimated that androgenetic alopecia affects a third of men by age 30 and nearly half by age 50.
